The Phoenician civilization
|
| The Phoenician preceed the Greek : They occupied all the
coast, promontories and islets. Later, when the Greek arrived,
they withdrew to Mothya, Solunto and Panormo, in the western
part of Sicily, both becouse of the alliance with the Elimi.
Everything happened towards the end of the 8th century B.C.

| Upon arrival in Palermo Airport. You
meet your escort, and you will be trasferred by private means
to you hotel. Dinner and overnight. |
| >>2nd day MOZIA - MARSALA |
| After breakfast you guide will take you
on a walking tour of the Phoenician island of Mothia and Salt-Farms.
Lunch at restaurant. In the afternoon your guide will show
you the archeological museum "Baglio Anselmi", famous for
the wreck of the punic war ship (IIIth century B.C.) Dinner
and overnight. |
| >>3rd day ADRANONE - SAMBUCA DI
SICILIA |
| In the morning, we will drive to Adranone,
an ancient town founded by Selinunte on Mount Adranone. Since
IV th century B.C. the town was under the Punic dominion.
The escavations have brought into light: the walls, the tomb
of Queen, two Temples in ruins etc. Lunch at a restaurant.
In the afternoon, proceed to Sambuca di Sicilia and visit
the Chiesa Madre and the city centre. Dinner and overnight. |
| >>4th day ERICE - SEGESTA |
| This morning you will enjoy a guided
sightseeing tour of Erice, a medieval village, famous for
the cult of Venus, nowadays "city of the science" thanks to
the Ettore Maiorana centre for scientific culture. After a
short rest for lunch at a typical restaurant, continue to
the archeological park of Segesta, to visit one of the finest
Doric Temples in Sicily and the Ellenistic - Roman Teatre.
Dinner and overnight. |
| >>5th day PALERMO - SOLUNTO |
| After breakfast we leave for Palermo.
This town in dominated by the arab-norman and baroque art,
but the Phoenician.Punic vestigies are kept inside the Regional
Archeological Museum. Lunch at the restaurant. In the afternoon,
preceed to Solunto, you will admire the Antiquarium and the
Archeological area. Dinner and overnight. |
